This weekend I had the pleasure of spending a morning in Exeter’s newest independent, Busby and Fox. After visiting the Totnes and Truro stores and falling in love with them, I am so pleased to see that B&F have now opened their fourth store in Exeter. Situated on the stunning Cathedral Green it’s in the heart of Exeter’s city centre. Its gorgeous facade carries on throughout, with its dreamy exposed industrial look, cleaned up with a coating of fresh white paint.
I was fascinated to learn that Emma Vowles journey began as a London based florist. With multiple weddings on the weekends and features in magazines including Devon life, Emma decided to start selling her flowers, along with an array of homeware at Avonmill garden centre. In 2011 Busby and Fox opened their first store in Totnes, starting with flowers and a selection of Scandi inspired homeware, such a glassware and cushions. B&F started adding some clothing to their popular Totnes store, which turned out to be a huge success. A few years ago Emma decided to expand across delightful Devon and B&F opened their second store in Truro. Last year they opened their third store in Kingsbridge and this month have opened their fourth store in Exeter.
Busby and Fox offer a unique collection of independent fashions brands, gorgeous homeware, jewellery and of course, flowers. The floristry element of the business is still very much a key part in each of the stores. This means that whilst your bouquet is being made up, you can have a browse around the shop and try on some of their gorgeous clothes! It’s the ideal solution for dinner party prep I think, a lovely bouquet of flowers for the table, and a lovely new outfit for you.
B&F find their inspiration from Scandi, French, Italian, British and US labels. From statement items to wardrobe staples, each piece has been carefully selected to ensure it’s on-trend and creating an evolving blend of timeless brands. I was lucky enough to be able to try on some of the gorgeous spring items currently in store…
Firstly I tried on this glorious pink cardigan. It was super soft, cosy and so comfortable. I paired it with this cute clutch, a pair of pale pink flats and white jeans. The perfect spring outfit in my eyes.
Secondly, I opted for a nautical themed outfit. Stripes take up a huge part of my wardrobe, so I was instantly attracted to this long sleeve top with a frill detail. I paired this stripy top with a pair of white jeans and added a splash of colour with these beautiful mustard heels.
For my third outfit, it was a more neutral colour palette, for a casual day look. Both the trousers and jumper were super soft. I accessorised the outfit with one of B&F's navy tassel necklaces, a cute golden clutch and these super comfortable clog style heels.
I LOVED this outfit. I'm not one to be 'out there' with colour but as soon as I paired this mustard tee style dress with a black strap dress and a pair of mustard flats, I didn't want to take it off.
This beautiful blouse and navy culottes were so easy to transform from a casual work look, to a smart formal style and finally a glamorous evening outfit. Once again, the fabric felt amazing and the clothes were so comfortable. Not forgetting this gorgeous golden sequin jacket, every wardrobe needs one of these.
Finally, the white jeans were back. I don't own a pair of white jeans but this pair have certainly made me want to change that. They are the definition of a wardrobe staple and the fit was perfect. I paired the jeans with this fabulous bow detailed black top, a monochrome patterned jacket and an essential black heel.
If you like the look of any of these garments and/or outfits, pop in store and have a browse. They have a stunning selection of homeware, an amazing array of clothing and wild and wonderful flowers. The quality of the material is outstanding and everything I tried on was so comfortable. The staff are super friendly, give amazing style advice and have a keen eye for the making of a great wardrobe. I hope Busby and Fox enjoy being a part of the Exeter community and I look forward to my next visit.
Thank you to the wonderful Christina for taking such beautiful photos of the store and helping me feel at ease being the other side of the camera.
